A Shining Lamp
READ
2 Peter 1:19
19 Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.
Peter and the other apostles were taught the truths spoken by the Old Testament prophets. The world is a dark place, but the words of the prophets were like a lamp. Those words gave insight and wisdom to all who would heed them. Their message was more convincing than even seeing one rise from the dead.
REFLECT
Do you realize that the prophets predicted many truths about the coming Lord Jesus Christ?
RESPOND
To show that the message of the prophets was even more significant than witnessing someone raised from the dead, see Luke 16:19-31. Notice what the rich man was told. He was in hades and wanted someone to go back from the dead to warn his brothers not to come to that place of torment. For proof of the truth that the word of the prophets was more convincing than one risen from the dead, see John 11:40-44 that tells of Lazarus being brought back to life. Then see John 12:9-11 to discover this did not convince the Jewish religious leaders.
