2 Peter 2:21-22
21 It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. 22 They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”
This is sad news for anyone who has known the “way to righteousness” and then rejects it. Peter quotes Proverbs 26:11 about the dog returning to its vomit. This and the comment about the washed pig returning to the mud shows the nature was not changed regardless of what the outer appearance might have looked like. These people Peter referred to were not genuine believers even if they might have reformed their lives outwardly.
REFLECT
Does this help you to see that a change of life is not sufficient unless a person repents and turns to God by placing faith in Jesus?
RESPOND
Discuss with a friend about an outer change is not the same as an inner change that comes by being born again by faith in the Lord Jesus. Good works alone is not enough. See Ephesians 2:8-9 in this regard.
