READ
2 Peter 3:1-2
1 This is my second letter to you, dear friends, and in both of them I have tried to stimulate your wholesome thinking and refresh your memory. 2 I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.
Peter referred to his first letter now appearing in Bibles as 1 Peter. Notice what his purpose was in both of them. He wanted to stimulate wholesome thinking and refresh the readers’ memory. He was not writing new information; he wanted them to remember what the Old Testament prophets had said. He also wanted them to remember what Jesus commanded people through the apostles.
REFLECT
It is important to know what Peter wanted his readers to remember. We learn what the prophets said in the Old Testament and what Jesus commanded in the gospels.
RESPOND
People today sometimes say they want to get back to what the early church was like. With a friend, read Acts 2:42-47 to see what the believers did.
