2 Peter – Week 5 – Day 4

Updated: Aug 28

READ

2 Peter 3:5-7

5 They deliberately forget that God made the heavens long ago by the word of his command, and he brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. 6 Then he used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood. 7 And by the same word, the present heavens and earth have been stored up for fire. They are being kept for the day of judgment, when ungodly people will be destroyed.

Those today who do not believe in the creative acts of God recorded in Genesis, this passage refers to them. “They deliberately forget.” Peter spells out some of the things they purposely forget. God spoke the heavens into existence and did creative work with the earth and water. Verse 6 refers to the universal flood that some deny occurred. The day of judgment is coming when ungodly people will be destroyed.

REFLECT

Do you believe what chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis say? Do not be like the scoffers to which Peter referred.

RESPOND

Meet with a friend and reread Genesis 1 and 2 to see what God did in His creative work. Is it hard to believe? Hebrews 11:3 reveals we understand these things by faith. We were not eyewitnesses and neither are they who deny the truths of these two chapters. They must take their beliefs by faith also.
