2 Peter 3:15-16
15 And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him— 16 speaking of these things in all of his letters. Some of his comments are hard to understand, and those who are ignorant and unstable have twisted his letters to mean something quite different, just as they do with other parts of Scripture. And this will result in their destruction.
This passage not only goes with what Peter wrote in 2 Peter 3:9 but also what the apostle Paul had written that is now in the Scriptures. One such verse about God’s patience in Paul’s writing is found in Romans 2:4. Peter acknowledged that some of Paul’s writings were “hard to understand.” This is because the infinite truths about God and eternity are impossible for finite minds to fully grasp. Notice that Peter referred to Paul’s writing as part of Scripture.
REFLECT
Peter alludes to false teachers twisting what Paul and others wrote in the Scriptures. He said it would result in the destruction of those teaching unbiblical truths.
RESPOND
Talk with a fellow believer about Scriptures that should not have the meaning twisted away from the clear statements: John 3:16-18; John 14:6; Romans 5:1-2; 8:1-2; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 John 5:10-13. Have you trusted in Jesus as Savior so you know you are saved and ready to enter eternity?
