Grace and Peace
READ
2 Thessalonians 1:1-2
1 This letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy. We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
This second letter closely followed the first one. Apparently the Thessalonian believers were confused about what Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and the Day of the Lord that would follow. This day would be a time of judgment (see Joel 3:13-15). Because of the persecution they were experiencing they thought they were already in the Day of the Lord. Paul wrote 2 Thessalonians to clear up their misunderstanding.
REFLECT
Be encouraged by what the Thessalonian believers experienced. Sometimes in reading the Bible you will need more explanation from those who have a better understanding of it.
RESPOND
With your friend, read 1 Thessalonians 1:1-2 to see the similarity with that in 2 Thessalonians. Paul was writing to believers; had the same companions; and gave the same wishes for grace and peace. The Thessalonians needed to be reminded of grace and peace. Paul always marveled at experiencing the grace of God that gave him the peace of God.
