Becoming Worthy
READ
2 Thessalonians 1:5-6
5 And God will use this persecution to show his justice and to make you worthy of his Kingdom, for which you are suffering. 6 In his justice he will pay back those who persecute you.
Paul told the believers how God would use persecution in their lives. He would use it to show His justice and make them worthy of His kingdom. God is a God of love, but He is also a God of justice. Paul told them that God, in His justice, would pay back those who were persecuting them. These two verses stress the justice of God, which is often overlooked as His love is emphasized.
REFLECT
Although you know God is loving, do you also know He is just and will work out His plan with justice? This can give you confidence for whatever difficulty you may be experiencing.
RESPOND
Discuss with your friend how the justice of God was a part of our salvation. A holy God could not allow sin to go unpunished. He remained just by sending His only Son to die on the cross and pay for sin. Then by His grace He could allow anyone to receive salvation by placing faith in His Son who died for them. Read Romans 3:23-26 in this regard.
