READ
2 Thessalonians 2:7-8
7 For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. 8 Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming.
Having referred to the “man of lawlessness” in verse 3, Paul explained more about him in these verses. Even though there is lawlessness now, something or someone is holding back the revealing of the “man of lawlessness.” Remember, Paul was pointing out what needed to occur before the Day of the Lord could begin. Paul was telling the believers that they had not missed the rapture nor were they in the Tribulation because this person had not yet been revealed.
REFLECT
Remember that Paul was telling believers that the persecution they may be going through now is not what will occur in the Tribulation. Things will be much worse then when Satan works through the “man of lawlessness” who wants to be worshiped as Jesus.
RESPOND
The “man of lawlessness” is known as the “beast” in Revelation 13. With your friend read this chapter that tells about those needing to receive his name or mark before they would be able to buy or sell during the Tribulation. This will be an attempt to starve them if they don’t worship him.
