READ
2 Thessalonians 3:6-7
6 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us. 7 For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you.
Paul commanded these Christ-followers to stay away from believers leading lazy lives. This command was not just from Paul but also from the Lord Jesus. Paul and his companions had been an example by doing hard work to support themselves when they ministered to them. Having set an example, Paul wanted the Thessalonian believers to mimic that.
REFLECT
Even though the rapture, mentioned in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, could come at any time, you should keep busy in the meantime. Help those who cannot help themselves, but expect the able bodied to work to support themselves.
RESPOND
With your disciple, read other passages that tell of believers working to support themselves. See Ephesians 4:28 and 1 Thessalonians 2:8-10.
