READ
2 Thessalonians 3:14-15
14 Take note of those who refuse to obey what we say in this letter. Stay away from them so they will be ashamed. 15 Don’t think of them as enemies, but warn them as you would a brother or sister.
Paul had told the Thessalonian believers to stay away from those living idle lives and not doing what he had taught. Here he gave the reason he wanted believers to stay away from them: “so they will be ashamed.” Paul thought their being ashamed would help them to see the error of their way. On the other hand, he did not want those obeying to treat the disobedient ones as enemies but to warn them as fellow believers.
REFLECT
Do Paul’s instructions here help you in knowing how to treat believers with whom you disagree? Are you able to be grateful for someone’s salvation even if they are not living as they should?
RESPOND
With your disciple, read 1 Corinthians 3:1-4 to learn about baby Christians who were living like the world. Also read 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 where Paul told from whom you should separate and from whom you should not separate.
