READ
2 Peter 3:9-11
9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. 11 Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live.
Notice in this passage about prophecy that God has a longing that others come to Him by trusting in Jesus as Savior. God uses people to accomplish His will so He wants believers telling others about Jesus. Notice also in this passage that these events are yet future, and yet God wants even the knowledge of them to affect the way they live.
REFLECT
Has your study of 2 Thessalonians given you a greater passion to live for Jesus and tell others about Him?
RESPOND
Discuss with your disciple what has been learned by studying 2 Thessalonians 3. Both of Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians have talked about future events. Has this emphasis given you a greater desire to tell your friends about Jesus? Has your better understanding of future events given you a passion to please Jesus in all you do? See Colossians 3:16-17 in this regard.
