READ
2 Timothy 1:3-4
3 Timothy, I thank God for you—the God I serve with a clear conscience, just as my ancestors did. Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 I long to see you again, for I remember your tears as we parted. And I will be filled with joy when we are together again.
Even though Paul was writing from prison, it was his custom to be thankful to God for everything. Even as an apostle, he yearned for fellowship with others, especially younger Timothy. They were both such dear friends that Timothy shed tears when they had parted, not knowing if they would see each other again. Paul knew he would be filled with joy if he was able to see Timothy again. This second letter to Timothy is the last inspired letter of Paul’s that is in the New Testament.
REFLECT
Are you as close to some friends as Paul was to Timothy—thinking of them night and day?
RESPOND
With a friend discuss 1 Thessalonians 5:17 about “never stop praying” or “praying without ceasing.” The Greek word translated this way was used in the first century to refer to an incessant cough. It was not one long cough but coughing at frequent intervals. That’s what believers can do as they pray at frequent intervals for each other
