2 Timothy – Week 2 – Day 2

2 Timothy 1:13-14 

13 Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. 14 Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you. 

In his first letter to Timothy, Paul had urged him to stay in Ephesus to stop those who were not teaching the truth (see 1 Timothy 1:3). Then in this letter, Paul urged Timothy to keep following what he had learned from Paul. Paul’s teaching did not include a list of rules but an emphasis on the faith and love one has for Jesus. Living like this was possible because of the indwelling Holy Spirit. 

REFLECT 

Have you had a more mature believer model for you what it is like to teach the truth in a loving way? 

RESPOND  

Paul emphasized teaching the truth. Doing that, however, must also be done with love. Read Ephesians 4:14-16 to see what Paul said about speaking the truth in love.
