2 Timothy 1:15
15 As you know, everyone from the province of Asia has deserted me—even Phygelus and Hermogenes.
This is a sad verse. Timothy was ministering in Ephesus that was in the “province of Asia”—modern day Turkey. He likely knew to whom Paul was referring so nothing more needed to be said. The Roman government was persecuting those who believed in King Jesus and not in the emperor in Rome. Paul was one of the main leaders. If they had imprisoned one of the leaders, they would also be after those associated with him.
REFLECT
You may be living in an area of the world where believers in Jesus are persecuted. Does this help you to understand why some deserted Paul?
RESPOND
Join with a friend in praying for those in more difficult circumstances than you because of persecution by unbelievers. Ask your church for information or look online for the “persecuted church” to learn more. Many need the prayers of fellow believers in Jesus.
