READ
2 Timothy 2:3-4
3 Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them.
At this point in his letter, Paul made some analogies to soldiers, athletes and farmers. He wanted Timothy to suffer along with him as a “good soldier of Christ Jesus.” He wanted Timothy—and all Christian soldiers—not to be so tied up with the affairs of life they would not be free to please the “officer who enlisted them.” This is a reference to the Lord Jesus.
REFLECT
You are surely involved in the affairs of life, but do you control them or do they control you?
RESPOND
Talk with a believer in Jesus about both of you being considered fellow soldiers. Read Philippians 2:25 to see that’s the way Paul referred to a fellow believer.
