2 Timothy – Week 3 – Day 4

READ

2 Timothy 2:11-13

11 This is a trustworthy saying: If we die with him, we will also live with him.

12 If we endure hardship, we will reign with him. If we deny him, he will deny us. 13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.

Romans 6:4-5 indicates when a person trusts in Jesus as Savior he not only dies with Him but is made alive as Jesus is. Baptism is mentioned in this passage but spirit baptism seems to fit the meaning best (see 1 Corinthians 12:13). Those who endure hardship for Jesus are promised to reign with Him. Even if believers are sometimes unfaithful, Jesus will always be faithful because this is His eternal character.

REFLECT

Do you think sometimes you have failed Jesus in not sharing the Gospel more clearly? Any seed you plant can be used to cause the person to think more seriously about eternity. Only the Holy Spirit can convert a person.

RESPOND

Read 2 Corinthians 6:3-10 to see some of the hardships Paul had suffered. Consider reading Hebrews 11 with a friend to see what others had suffered for their faith.
