2 Timothy 2:23-24
23 Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. 24 A servant of the Lord must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone, be able to teach, and be patient with difficult people.
In his short letter to Timothy, Paul was concerned about foolish talk that starts arguments. Unbelievers might be guilty of this, but Paul thought no servant of the Lord should be guilty of it. One who serves the Lord should love not only fellow believers but also unbelievers. Addressing the young pastor, Paul said Timothy must be able to teach and be “patient with difficult people.”
REFLECT
Are you able to stay out of arguments that you are convinced are useless?
RESPOND
Paul’s mention of “servant” in this passage is sometimes translated as “bond-slave.” It has the meaning of being bound to Jesus and serving Him out of love for what He has done. Talk with a friend about staying out of unnecessary arguments and being patient with difficult people.
