READ
2 Timothy 3:6-7
6 They are the kind who work their way into people’s homes and win the confidence of vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires. 7 (Such women are forever following new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth.)
Paul describes the activities of these false teachers who have religion but not a relationship with Jesus. They win the confidence of those who are undiscerning of their techniques. Those who have spiritual problems of their own allow themselves to be taken captive by these who preach religion but do not know Jesus as Savior. The victims Paul describes are those who are always looking for some new teaching but are unaware of the truth.
REFLECT
Do you know where truth is found? See John 17:17.
RESPOND
Partner with someone to discuss how to discern false teaching and questions to ask. Even some who stand behind pulpits need to be asked such questions as: Is Jesus the divine Son of God? Do you believe in the virgin birth and the substitutionary death of Jesus? Do you believe He will come again for those who know Him?
