READ
2 Timothy 3:10-11
10 But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance. 11 You know how much persecution and suffering I have endured. You know all about how I was persecuted in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra—but the Lord rescued me from all of it.
In contrast to the false teachers, Timothy knew the true Gospel from what Paul taught. From hearing and watching the apostle, Timothy knew Paul’s faith, patience, love and endurance. Timothy was from Lystra (see Acts 16:1), so he would have known about the persecution Paul suffered in the area. Paul was able to say the Lord had rescued him from all the persecution.
REFLECT
What have you learned by watching the lives of some of your spiritual leaders? Have they demonstrated the kind of life Paul had?
RESPOND
Consider what Timothy observed in the apostle Paul being similar to the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. Talk with a friend about making these fruit evident in your lives.
