READ
2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Verse 16 is a key passage about the Scriptures being inspired. The word Paul uses for “inspired” here is a word that means “breathed out.” In other words, Paul is saying, all Scripture is “God-breathed.” God breathed out what He wanted the writers to record. Verses 16 and 17 reveal what God’s word will accomplish in one’s life: it teaches, corrects, prepares and equips believers to do good works.
REFLECT
Have you found the Bible to be working in this way in your life?
RESPOND
Consider another passage of Scripture that ,along with 2 Timothy 3:16-17, tells about how God inspired His word to be written. That passage is 2 Peter 1:20-21. It reveals the writers of Scripture were borne along as a ship would be borne along by the wind. They recorded what God wanted them to write. The Bible is the only book God has ever inspired to be written.
