2 Timothy 4:8
8 And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.
Because of the way he had served the Lord Jesus, Paul was expecting a prize. That prize was the “crown of righteousness” on the day Christ returns. Paul wanted believers to know that prize was not just for him but “for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.”
REFLECT
Are you eagerly looking forward to the return of Jesus? Can others tell that by the way you are living?
RESPOND
A key passage about rewards for believers is 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. Notice that those rewarded are those who are building on a foundation someone else has laid. Only believers will appear at this judgment, sometimes called “The Judgment Seat of Christ.” Unbelievers will be judged at the Great White Throne judgment referred to in Revelation 20:11-15. Both believers and unbelievers are judged according to their works. This indicates there will be different degrees of rewards and different degrees of punishment.
