Elements of Prayer: Confession

Published 5/17/19

Read Proverbs 28:13 (NIRV)

Anyone who hides their sins doesn't succeed. But anyone who admits their sins and gives them up finds mercy.

Reflect

• Are there areas of your life that you're hiding from others--even from God? The truth is, God already knows about them, so come humbly before Him and confess your sins.

• Do you believe that Jesus will forgive you?

• Do you trust that He loves you and cares about every struggle you're facing?

Once we've spent time praising and thanking God, we are ready to humbly come before Him and engage in another important element of prayer: confession.

There is something powerful about admitting our mistakes to our Creator. He wants us to dig deeper as the Holy Spirit takes us to the core of who we are. Sometimes, we may be faced with difficult issues that are the root of our struggles. It's not always easy, but it is God's continuing work in us that brings us closer to Him.

Remember, He is the one who creates a new life in each of us. It's freeing and sometimes emotional. But He is a mighty God who cares for us beyond measure. And, He has asked us to bring these private struggles to Him. As we hand them over to the one who can forgive, He brings new life and restoration into our soul. His cleansing power shapes us into the person He has called us to be.

Pray

Lord, Jesus, I agree with You that I am a sinner, and I know that You have forgiven my sins. I am sorry and ask for Your forgiveness. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and cleanse me. I want to repent and follow You. Amen.
