READ
Galatians 6:12-13
12 Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised want to look good to others. They don’t want to be persecuted for teaching that the cross of Christ alone can save. 13 And even those who advocate circumcision don’t keep the whole law themselves. They only want you to be circumcised so they can boast about it and claim you as their disciples.
Paul wrote that those wanting the Galatians to add law keeping to believing in Jesus for salvation were only doing it for show. Paul knew that preaching that one becomes righteous by what Christ accomplished on the cross of Christ alone can cause you to be persecuted. Paul pointed out that these Judaizers were not keeping the whole law, just the part they like.
REFLECT
Does this remind you again that those who wish to keep part of the Old Testament law are obligated to keep all 613 commandments? No one does this.
RESPOND
Visit with a friend about the reminders that have been made as this study has focused on Galatians. The purpose of the law was never to make one right with God. See Romans 3:19-20. See also James 2:10 and what it says about breaking even one law. The law was like a mirror showing one the need for salvation so he or she would turn to God by faith.
