Galatians – Week 2 – Day 1

READ

Galatians 1:13-16

13 You know what I was like when I followed the Jewish religion—how I violently persecuted God’s church. I did my best to destroy it. 14 I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors. 15 But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by his marvelous grace. Then it pleased him 16 to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being.

Paul rehearsed his life for the Galatian readers. He had been a persecutor of believers and was more serious about it than any of his fellow Jews. Paul had a view of God’s sovereign plan in calling him before he was born. That plan was to use him to reveal Jesus and preach the Gospel to the Gentiles.

REFLECT

As a believer in Jesus, do you realize that God also wants to use you to let others see Jesus in your life?

RESPOND

Join with a friend in discussing how God uses believers today to reveal His Son in them. God has given every believer the indwelling Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:9). The Spirit’s ministry is to reveal Jesus to believers and produce the fruit of the Spirit in their lives. John 16:12-15 records what the Holy Spirit will do. Galatians 5:22-23 records the fruit that the Holy Spirit wants to produce in each believer’s life. The last statement in this passage shows no restriction can prohibit one from revealing the fruit of the Spirit in his or her life.
