READ
Galatians 2:9-10
9 In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co-workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews. 10 Their only suggestion was that we keep on helping the poor, which I have always been eager to do.
The “pillars of the church” suggested no changes in Paul’s doctrine. And what they did suggest, he was doing already. At this point, Barnabas was Paul’s companion but later it was Silas. After their first missionary trip, the two of them could not agree on taking Barnabas’ cousin Mark along on the next trip. Mark had deserted them on their first trip (see Acts 15:38-40).
REFLECT
Consider that what God had revealed to Paul to be taught was the same as what James, Peter and John were teaching. Paul was an equal with them on every level.
RESPOND
With a friend, read 2 Corinthians 8:10-15 and draw all the principles you can from that passage about giving. This should be an encouragement to both of you.
