Galatians – Week 4 – Day 1

READ

Galatians 2:19-20

19 For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. 20 My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Paul explained his attempt to keep the law as a Jewish Pharisee. That was impossible to do so by trusting in Jesus as Savior he died to the law. The law no longer had any effect on him. By trusting in Jesus, Paul took part in His death and died with Him. As a believer, Paul then lived “by trusting in the Son of God.”

REFLECT

Have you given up trying to be right with God by keeping a list of rules?

RESPOND

You will never become right with God by trying to keep a system of regulations. Instead, trust in Jesus and consider that you took part in His death. With a fellow believer, read Romans 6:1-11 to see that the believer is considered to have been co-crucified with Jesus. In addition, believers should consider themselves to be alive with Jesus, even as He was raised from the dead.
