Galatians – Week 4 – Day 2

READ

Galatians 2:21

21 I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

This is a significant verse. It applies not only to the Old Testament law but to good works of any kind. If one could be made right with God by those means, the death of Jesus was a useless death. Such thinking would negate the plan of God in providing for the redemption of all who would believe in Jesus.

REFLECT

Are you treating the “grace of God as meaningless”? You do not if you are trusting in Him rather than in a list of good works.

RESPOND

Talk with a friend about how thankful we can be that we are living in the age of grace rather than in the age of the law. By common Jewish count there are 613 commandments in the Old Testament, and James 2:10 says if you’ve broken one of them you’re as guilty as the one who has broken all of them.
