READ
Galatians 3:8-9
8 What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” 9 So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.
Paul continued to emphasize to the Galatians the importance of faith rather than works. Having cited Abraham’s faith before in Genesis 15:6, here Paul referred to Genesis 12:3. All of this was to be accomplished by the unconditional promise of God. Everyone who puts faith in Christ follows the example of Abraham who put his faith in God’s promises.
REFLECT
As others have said, “The New Testament in the Old is concealed; the Old Testament in the New is revealed.”
RESPOND
Read Genesis 12:1-3. God has never set aside these promises. He even called the promises “everlasting” in Genesis 17:19. If God could change His mind about “everlasting” in the Abrahamic Covenant, could He change His mind about “everlasting” in John 3:16? God will not change His mind—on either one.
