READ
Galatians 3:23-25
23 Before the way of faith in Christ was available to us, we were placed under guard by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until the way of faith was revealed. 24 Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith. 25 And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.
The “way of faith” was the way to become right with God. The law was their guardian until Christ came. It was like a servant in charge of a child teaching some basic things but eventually leading the child to be taught by someone else. The law told them the difference between what was right and wrong. When Jesus came, the people were made right with God “through faith.” Now that this time had been reached, Paul was telling the Galatian readers that people no longer needed the law as a guardian.
REFLECT
Do you realize now that you have faith in Jesus you no longer need the law system to show you your need of Him?
RESPOND
With a friend read Luke 16:16-18. This passage reveals that the present-day Gospel replaces the law system even though there are still some laws that should be followed.
