Galatians 4:19-20
19 Oh, my dear children! I feel as if I’m going through labor pains for you again, and they will continue until Christ is fully developed in your lives. 20 I wish I were with you right now so I could change my tone. But at this distance I don’t know how else to help you.
Paul felt as if he were experiencing labor pains as he sought to help the people trust in Jesus and be free from the law. Now they were returning to their old ways, and he was experiencing these pains again. As he penned his letter, he wished he were with them so they could discuss this matter in person. Because he was not with them, all he could do was write them a letter and lay out his message in blunt, straightforward fashion to ensure they understood.
REFLECT
What do you take most seriously, correction someone gives in a letter or face to face?
RESPOND
Have you shared the labor pains Paul felt as you have prayed for and sought to lead a person to trust in Jesus for salvation? How sad it would be if the person regressed after all the time and effort you invested in the individual.
