READ
Galatians 4:30-31
30 But what do the Scriptures say about that? “Get rid of the slave and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not share the inheritance with the free woman’s son.” 31 So, dear brothers and sisters, we are not children of the slave woman; we are children of the free woman.
Paul wrote that believers in the law would never inherit what the believers in Jesus would. In this parallel, believers are children of the free woman. The law was given to show mankind the need for salvation, but no one could be made right with God by keeping the law (see Romans 3:19-20).
REFLECT
Are you rejoicing that you do not have to try to become right with God by keeping the law system?
RESPOND
Unbelievers who live by the law express themselves by the works of the flesh. For a contrast of the works of the flesh by unbelievers and the fruit of the Spirit expressed by believers, see Galatians 5:16-25.
