When you call Back to the Bible, you’re greeted by one
of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet. Janette Johnson is always happy to answer your questions, listen to your needs, and encourage you. Our staff appreciates her for those same reasons, so we thought you might enjoy getting to know her a little more.
Janette, your timeline with Back to the Bible started some time ago. Tell us about that.
In 1998, I heard some friends from church talking about a job at this place called Back to the Bible. I had heard of the program before and I was VERY interested in working for a Christian ministry, so I applied, was hired, and began to work with mail processing. After a few years, I was blessed with our first child. I really appreciated being able to come into the office occasionally and help out with projects and still be a mommy. In 2010, with both of my children in school, I began to work temporarily in the call center, and I am still here!
What changes have you seen from when you started at Back to the Bible?
Now that the internet has made everything so easy to do online, we need fewer people in general to do the work of the ministry. Even though the staff numbers are smaller and our way of reaching people has shifted from radio to digital applications, I feel that Back to the Bible has done a great job of staying true to the vision Theodore Epp had when he started the ministry.
What are some of the reasons people call?
People call for all sorts of things, from looking for resources to wanting to donate to asking for someone to pray with them. There are also address changes and troubleshooting questions for our digital platforms. Honestly, you name it and we've probably had a call about it.
You often mention being encouraged by our Back to the Bible family. In what ways?
I am just amazed at the kindness of the people who call or email us! Many share stories about growing up with Back to the Bible and how it has impacted their lives. That has been an encouragement to me.
What do you love most about the calls you receive?
I LOVE helping others, so it is an honor and a privilege to be able to do that here. I even get to pray with people and help them with whatever they need. I am so very thankful God has given me the opportunity to serve in this way at Back to the Bible!
When Janette’s not working, she enjoys time with her husband Jody, their daughter Cassie and son-in-law Alex (with glasses), son Alex, and their family dogs. Janette’s desire to help others extends beyond work, so you’ll also find her leading teams at the local soup kitchen and food truck ministry where she creates wonderful meals for people and serves with a smile!
