Life can be tough when you’re trying to find love in people, places, and things that only bring you more pain. But you don’t have to stay on that path.

Carrie’s Story

During my childhood, I faced relentless bullying and harassment in school. Unfortunately, this negativity didn't stay confined to the school grounds; it followed me home, poisoning my life and leading me down a destructive path.

At the tender age of 14, I sought solace in cigarettes and alcohol, as I tried to numb the pain inside. The toxic environment at home, riddled with infidelity, only added to the anger that consumed me. I found myself engaging in risky behaviors, becoming sexually active, and associating with the wrong crowd. I lied, stole, and even experimented with witchcraft. The darkness grew so overwhelming that, at 16, I contemplated suicide.

At 18, I believed I had found my "true love." I got pregnant, only to find myself a single mother within the year. The cycle of risky behaviors persisted, accompanied by abuse at the hands of the men I dated. I married at 23 and had three beautiful children during my thirteen-year marriage.

Regrettably, that abusive relationship ended in divorce, and my children suffered.

I felt completely shattered, overwhelmed by an immense sense of sadness, and burdened by a feeling of failure. It was as if I had sunk into the depths of a dark abyss, and taking my own life had once again invaded my thoughts.

I found myself lying face down on the floor of my neglected and dirty kitchen, crying uncontrollably, and desperately calling out to God. I couldn't understand why all of this was happening. I had heard about God's existence, but I didn't honestly know who He was. Nevertheless, I had no other option but to cry out to Him. An overwhelming sense of peace washed over me, as if I were being embraced by a multitude all at once. A glimmer of hope started to emerge.

An acquaintance invited me to their Baptist church. Even though I had chosen to abandon my Catholic faith years ago, I knew I needed to go.

While my problems didn't magically disappear, my life began to change. People from that church helped me and shared the Gospel with me. I learned that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I repented of my sins, surrendered my life to Christ, and was baptized. Jesus rescued me. He completely transformed my life.

Now, I am happily married to my best friend, and we have welcomed two more children into our family. Despite encountering numerous challenges along the way, our faith has only grown stronger and more profound in our journey with our Heavenly Father.

Has life become unbearable? Turn to Jesus.

Jesus, thank You for bearing my sin on the cross, for taking my place so that I could receive forgiveness and spend eternity in heaven with You. May I never take Your sacrifice for granted. Remind me daily that my salvation is found in You, Jesus—the Way, the Truth, and the Life—not because I deserve it, but because You love me. Amen.
