READ
Philippians 1:12-14
12 And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. 13 For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. 14 And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.
Even though he was imprisoned, Paul saw the sovereignty of God at work. Because of his situation others were hearing the gospel. Even the palace guard knew of his false charges and that Paul was really in prison “because of Christ.” Instead of his persecution intimidating other believers, it was making them bolder. They were speaking out without fear.
REFLECT
When you hear of other believers suffering something because of their testimony does it cause of you to be bolder in expressing your faith?
RESPOND
Read 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 to see how Paul adapted to different situations—usually giving up some of his Christian liberty—so that he might win others to Christ.
