Philippians - Week 2 - Day 5

READ

Philippians 1:20-21

20 For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die. 21 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.

Paul’s desire was to preach Christ unashamedly and boldly. Above all he wanted to honor Christ whether by his life or by his death. Verse 21 reveals there is no soul sleep in the grave after a believer dies. Paul knew when he left this life he would be with Jesus, which would be even better. He continues this thought in the following verses seen in Week 3. Paul had spoken out boldly when he was first a Christ-follower and he wanted that to be true all his life.

REFLECT

Are you able to speak out for Jesus without being ashamed or timid? If not, ask God to help you in this regard.

RESPOND

Read Acts 9:26-28 about how Paul preached boldly after he had first met Christ as Savior.
