Philippians 2:5-8
5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Paul now gives believers an example to show how they should live. It has to do with the attitude Jesus had. Philippians 2:5-8 is considered by many to contain the most theological statements in the New Testament about the Lord Jesus. He emptied Himself of the glory He had with the Father. Even though Jesus was the Creator of the Universe He limited Himself by taking on a human form so He could die for the sins of the world. He had to be fully God for His sacrifice to be effective for all, and He had to be fully human so He could die.
REFLECT
Think about all that Jesus gave up because He loved you and all people in the world so much.
RESPOND
Read 1 John 4:9-12 to see the reason why believers should love each other.
