READ
Philippians 3:6-7
6 I was so zealous that I harshly persecuted the church. And as for righteousness, I obeyed the law without fault. 7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
Some give you the impression that all that is needed is zeal. Here you see from Paul’s words that you can be zealous for the wrong things. As a Jewish Pharisee he persecuted believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. His previous comments about his heritage in the Jewish religion he now considered as worthless in comparison to the forgiveness of sins and eternal life he had because of believing in the Lord Jesus.
REFLECT
Spend some time thinking what it would be like for you if you did not know Jesus as Savior.
RESPOND
Read Romans 10:1-4 about what Paul said concerning the misdirected zeal of his fellow Israelites.
