Philippians - Week 8 - Day 2

READ

Philippians 3:20-21

20 But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. 21 He will take our weak mortal bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power with which he will bring everything under his control.

Paul again stresses the importance of citizenship even as he did when beaten and jailed in Philippi. There it was his Roman citizenship; here it is believers’ heavenly citizenship. Heaven is where Jesus lives and Paul was waiting eagerly for His return. Paul and many others have had “weak mortal bodies” and were looking forward to the change into a body as the Lord Jesus has. Paul realized that this change would be possible by the all-powerful Jesus who “will bring everything under his control.”

REFLECT

Are you or believers you know afflicted with physical difficulties? If so, this is the confidence all believers can have when their bodies are changed as they go to be with Jesus.

RESPOND

Read 2 Corinthians 12:1-10 to learn about some of the physical problems Paul experienced and how he handled them.
