Philippians 3:17-19
17 Dear brothers and sisters, pattern your lives after mine, and learn from those who follow our example. 18 For I have told you often before, and I say it again with tears in my eyes, that there are many whose conduct shows they are really enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.
For younger believers who might not know how to live, Paul said, “Pattern your lives after mine.” In addition to following his example Paul wanted them to “learn from those who follow my example.” His heart was breaking because he had observed the conduct of others that revealed they were enemies of the cross of Christ. He was referring to those who only lived for the pleasures of this world.
REFLECT
Do you have a godly believer who is older in the faith than you and is an example for you? Are you being an example to those younger in the faith?
RESPOND
Talk with your disciple about this passage and ask each other if you are serving as godly examples for those younger in the faith than you are.
