READ
Philippians 4:6-7
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
The basis of all of Paul’s instructions must be a strong belief in the sovereignty of God—that He is in ultimate control of everything. God does not want believers worrying, but He likes them to express their cares to Him. Believers need to remember what God has done for them in the past and thank Him for it. The result will be experiencing God’s peace that goes far beyond what one can imagine or explain. Praying about everything and thanking God for what He has done will produce peace and protection of hearts and minds.
REFLECT
There is much to think about in these two verses and to apply to yourself. Reflect on the extent you have been able to do this.
RESPOND
With your disciple, read Romans 8:26-30. This passage reveals the sovereignty of God and the enablement He gives in providing the Holy Spirit to help us in praying.
