READ
Philippians 4:10-11
10 How I praise the Lord that you are concerned about me again. I know you have always been concerned for me, but you didn’t have the chance to help me. 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.
Paul thanks the Philippian believers for their concern for him. They had sent him a financial gift and he wanted them to know that he appreciated it but he had learned to be content with what he had—even though he was writing this from prison. Paul did not covet what others had and he was not disappointed with what he had. Such contentment is hard to find even among believers who say they trust the Lord for everything. He will later tell how he was so content.
REFLECT
How are you doing being content with your present circumstances?
RESPOND
With your disciple, read Exodus 20:17 to see that not coveting was part of the law God gave through Moses. Then read Romans 13:8-10 to see the New Testament application to today.
