Day 1
READ
Revelation 19:7-8
7 “Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb, and his bride has prepared herself. 8 She has been given the finest of pure white linen to wear.” For the fine linen represents the good deeds of God’s holy people.
It seems the “bride” refers to the Church-age believers. The Bible distinguishes between the Church, Israel and the Gentiles (see 1 Corinthians 10:32). Dressed in the “finest of pure white linen” represents “the good deeds of God’s holy people.” This is not just a usual wedding feast; it is “the wedding feast of the Lamb.” The Son of God is the bridegroom in this wedding feast.
REFLECT
Think about the wonderful time it will be when believers gather with the Son of God at the wedding feast of the Lamb. The Lamb is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
RESPOND
A Christian marriage is to be a picture of the bridegroom, Jesus, and His bride, the Church. Read Ephesians 5:25-33 about this relationship and comparison.
Worship Only God
Day 2
READ
Revelation 19:9-10
9 And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.” 10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”
The apostle John was told what to write and then he fell down to worship the angel. The angel sees himself only as a created being and tells John not to worship him. The instruction, “Worship only God,” reveals that only God is worthy of worship. Here is also seen that the purpose of prophecy is to give a witness about Jesus.
REFLECT
Think about the fact that the Old Testament looks ahead to the Lord Jesus Christ and the New Testament looks back to Him.
RESPOND
That only God is to be worshiped is an indication that Jesus is God. In this regard, compare the words of Jesus in Matthew 4:10 and what the heavenly Father says about His Son in Hebrews 1:5-6. That Jesus is to be worshiped proves from the Scriptures that He is God.
Day 3
READ
Revelation 19:11-13
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war. 12 His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns. A name was written on him that no one understood except himself. 13 He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God.
In Bible times a horse was a military animal. In peacetimes even kings rode on donkeys. This passage refers to the second advent of Jesus. His first advent was when He came to earth by being born of a virgin in Bethlehem; His second advent is when He comes to earth at the end of the seven-year Tribulation. His crowns were kingly crowns (diadems), not just a victor’s (stephanos) crown. His title “was the Word of God.”
REFLECT
Think how wonderful it will be when Jesus returns to earth.
RESPOND
Notice how the last statement in this passage refers to “the Word of God.” Jesus is also referred to as the “Word” in John 1:1. Words are used to express oneself and Jesus came to express the heavenly Father. John 1:18 says that Jesus has declared or made known God.
The Fierce Wrath of God
Day 4
READ
Revelation 19:14-16
14 The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. 15 From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. 16 On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.
This is another contrast regarding believers and Jesus. At the rapture (see 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), Jesus comes for His saints. At His second advent to earth He comes with His saints. As the “Word” He was able to speak the world into existence; at the end of the Tribulation He will speak armies out of existence. He will rule with a rod of iron and release the wrath of God on unbelievers. No one will doubt then that He is the “King of all kings and Lord of all lords.”
REFLECT
Does this passage help you to see how powerful the Lord Jesus Christ is? How does this thought affect your life?
RESPOND
People often pray, “Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (see Matthew 6:10). That prayer is being answered in Revelation 19. The following chapter will tell of His rule on earth for 1,000 years.
A Feast for Vultures
Day 5
READ
Revelation 19:17-18
17 Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, shouting to the vultures flying high in the sky: “Come! Gather together for the great banquet God has prepared. 18 Come and eat the flesh of kings, generals, and strong warriors; of horses and their riders; and of all humanity, both free and slave, small and great.”
There was a wedding feast of the Lamb for believers. This passage reveals a feast for vultures of the sky to come to the feast of dead bodies of unbelievers. This will be a terrible time of destruction for the armies of the world who have opposed the Lord Jesus Christ.
REFLECT
Rejoice if you know Jesus as Savior that you will never have to experience such an awful time.
RESPOND
With a fellow believer, read Zechariah 14:1-5 that tells of the Lord’s return to earth. Compare Acts 1:9-12 to see that Jesus will return to the same spot from which He left the earth.
