RECEIVE
Titus 1:1
1 This letter is from Paul, a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. I have been sent to proclaim faith to those God has chosen and to teach them to know the truth that shows them how to live godly lives.
Paul introduces himself to Titus as “a slave of God.” The word “slave” referred to a “bound one” and Paul was bound to God. Paul was “an apostle of Jesus Christ.” He was an official representative of Jesus. Paul stated his purpose as an apostle: to proclaim the faith; to teach; and to show people how to live godly lives.
REFLECT
An apostle was a direct representative of the Lord Jesus. Apostles are no longer needed now that the completed revelation of God is available in the Bible.
RESPOND
Meet with a friend to discuss the value of the Bible to teach about faith and to show Christ-followers how to live. For example, read Ephesians 4:17-32 for important instructions about how to be a godly person.
