RECEIVE
Titus 1:4
4 I am writing to Titus, my true son in the faith that we share. May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior give you grace and peace.
Paul referred to Titus as a “true” or “genuine” son in the faith. Many translations add “my true son” although the text does not demand that. The letter to Titus is one of the “Pastoral Epistles.” This refers to letters written to Timothy and Titus about leadership and conduct in the local churches. Paul gave his familiar greeting of “grace” and “peace.”
REFLECT
You will find the book of Titus to be instructive about leadership in the local church and how people should live godly lives.
RESPOND
In the first century, there were no clergy/laity divisions as seen today. There were leaders in the local church described in both 1Timothy and Titus. Neither were there any denominations. Believers shared the gospel with others who had the passion to share it with others. This spread the gospel to the then-known world. Some died for their faith in those early days. Stephen is considered to have been the first martyr (see Acts 7:54-60).
