RECEIVE
Titus 1:12-14
12 Even one of their own men, a prophet from Crete, has said about them, “The people of Crete are all liars, cruel animals, and lazy gluttons.” 13 This is true. So reprimand them sternly to make them strong in the faith. 14 They must stop listening to Jewish myths and the commands of people who have turned away from the truth.
Paul cites a prophet from Crete that the people respected. Even their prophet gave negative comments about the Cretans. Paul added, “This is true.” This reveals the kind of people to whom Titus was to minister. Titus was not to be timid. Paul wanted him to “reprimand them sternly.” The purpose was to make “them strong in the faith.” The people should stop listening to Jewish myths and to those who had turned away from the truth.
REFLECT
Have you met those who teach what is not found in the Bible? You should ask, “Where do you
find that in the Bible?” The Bible should be the final source of authority.
RESPOND
Read what the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy about the reason for urgency in proclaiming the gospel. See 2 Timothy 4:1-4. Discuss this with a friend. Let the passage urge you to share your faith with others.
