RECEIVE
Titus 3:8-9
8 This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone. 9 Do not get involved in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time.
Notice that Paul wanted believers to be devoted to doing good works after they have trusted in Jesus for salvation. Apparently in that day some were using the genealogies and weaving in stories about them that were not based on truth. Paul wanted Titus to avoid getting involved in this and other matters associated with debates about the Jewish laws.
REFLECT
Do you realize it is better for you to stay out of discussions not based on the Bible? This is especially true of arguments about the laws in the Old Testament in contrast to the grace of God revealed in the New Testament.
RESPOND
Talk with a friend about what the apostle Paul said about the laws in the Old Testament. Before his salvation, he had been a Jewish Pharisee and sought to keep those laws. After salvation he wrote Colossians 2:16-17 about diets and special days.
