Colossians 1:1-2
1 This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy. 2 We are writing to God’s holy people in the city of Colosse, who are faithful brothers and sisters in Christ. May God our Father give you grace and peace.
Letters in New Testament times began with the writer’s name and some credentials. This letter to the church in Colosse is from Paul who is an apostle by the will of God, not by the will of man. It is sent to the “holy [set apart] people” who are “faithful” Christ-followers—both refer to the same group. “Grace” (charis) is a New Testament word and “peace” (shalom) an Old Testament one. Paul greatly appreciated the meaning of both.
REFLECT
Could you be referred to as one who is “set apart” and “faithful” to the Lord Jesus? Make it your passion to be known this way.
