READ
Colossians 1:9-10
9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.
Paul had many friends for whom he was praying. For these he prayed specific prayers. He wanted them to have complete knowledge of God’s will; to have spiritual wisdom and understanding; to live pleasing to the Lord; and to grow as they learned to know God better. These requests could be a good model for believers praying for other Christ-followers today.
REFLECT
Consider praying in a similar way for believers you know. These requests have to do with eternal, spiritual matters, not just with physical, temporal ones.
RESPOND
Read another of the apostle Paul’s prayers in Ephesians 3:14-21. Notice how he finishes with his praise to God. Talk with your friend about praying this way for others.
