Colossians – Week 4 – Day 1

READ

Colossians 2:1-3

1 I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally. 2 I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. 3 In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Laodicea was a neighboring city and Paul was agonizing over the heresy of Gnosticism that was found in both Colosse and Laodicea.  The word “Gnosticism” relates to the Greek word gnosis that means “knowledge.” The Gnostics were those who thought additional knowledge was found outside of Christianity and the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul wrote that in Jesus is “hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

REFLECT

Think about that all one needs for wisdom and knowledge is found in the Lord Jesus Christ. And what is known about Him is found in the pages of the Bible.

RESPOND

Help your friend to know the best way to avoid the false claims of other religious groups is to know all you can from the Bible about Jesus. Others can write about Jesus but only the Bible is the authoritative source about Him. Be knowledgeable about what is said about Jesus in the gospel accounts.
