READ
Colossians 2:6-7
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Paul encouraged the believers to live according to the same way they trusted in the Lord Jesus. This would mean a life of faith, and the object of that faith is Jesus. In contrast to the false “truth” the Gnostics were teaching, believers who let their roots grow deeply in the Lord Jesus will grow in the truth they were taught. This would be what was taught by Jesus and passed on by the apostles. This teaching is now found in the Bible.
REFLECT
Are you focusing on the reading of the four gospels so you know well what Jesus taught? That is all the early church had as they depended on the apostles to teach what Jesus taught.
RESPOND
To affirm what Paul said in Colossians, read what he wrote in Galatians 3:1-11. Some who were saved by faith in Jesus were trying to live the Christian life as if they were living under the works of the law. Paul corrected that in what he wrote.
